MV Fire Department responds to grass fire

The Madawaska Valley Fire Department responded to their first grass fire last Thursday.

The fire department says that the fire had not been extinguished and was left to burn unattended.

A ticket was issued to the property owner under the Provincial Offences Act.

The township reminds everyone that permits allow fires from 2 hours before sunset to 2 hours after sunrise….and that fires need to be extinguished completely…be no larger than 2 meters by 2 meters….and not be left unattended.

There is also no day burning form April 1st to October 31st

According to the township, fines range from $315 to $615, and there is a recovery cost of over $570 per truck.

The fire department responds with at least three trucks to a reported wildfire and at least six firefighters.
