The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene of a collision on Sunday night.

Central Hastings OPP said they responded shortly before 8:30 p.m. to a report of a vehicle being driven erratically, westbound on Highway 7.

Shortly afterward, OPP said, officers discovered a collision involving that vehicle and a motorcycle.

In it’s media release, the SIU said an OPP officer was eastbound on Highway 7 in Madoc, Ont., when he observed a vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed.

The officer proceeded to follow the vehicle.

According to the SIU, a short time later, in the area of Highway 7 and St. Lawrence Street West, the officer came across a collision between the vehicle of interest and a motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider, a 57-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The male driver of the car, age 19, was not injured.

The SIU said three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
