You might notice some younger community members cleaning up the streets on Earth Day.
The Bancroft Area Youth Stewardship Council (BAYSC) is a conservation group engaged in conservation and environmental activities, including taking part in spring clean-up efforts, like the Earth Day clean-up ‘blitz’.
The group meets weekly at North Hastings High School.
The club are spreading the word that more members are always welcome.
“We hope to advertise more for our club to motivate more youth to get involved, youth that is also in the community, they don’t just have to go to the high school.”
Ian Hendry of the Bancroft Area Stewardship Council said they’re proud of the youth’s involvement, and their commitment to motivating others.
“We’re very proud of them for organizing this (Earth Day clean-up)…this is a project that’s not just about the Youth Stewardship Council, but they’ve involved the whole school.
“This time, the team that picks up the most garbage is going to win a pizza lunch for the whole class.”
