Peace Museum event in Bancroft wins culture award

The Canadian Peace Museum has won best in-person program for its Stories of Peace Award ceremony held in Bancroft this fall.

The recognition from Ontario Culture Days celebrates “outstanding programming that fosters deep, meaningful engagement within the community. “

The September award ceremony featured an array of speakers and performances including poetry by Palestinian-Canadian poet Maya Al-Jaber, art by Maynooth artist Dave Maris, live music by Liam Kelly and the photography exhibit Exodus by Nicolò Filippo Rosso, on loan from the United Nations Refugee Agency Canada.

International video and art pieces were featured, with most from Ontario and one all the way from a refugee camp in Bangladesh.

Bancroft Mayor Paul Jenkins, Town Manager Andra Kauffeldt and United Church Minister Svinda Heinrichs all spoke at the event, along with Peace Museum President Chris Houston.

The ceremony culminated in the presentation of the Stories of Peace Award to Coe Hill School, recognized for their video exploring themes of empathy, kindness, and inclusion.
