‘We need to normalize peace’: Peace pole unveiled in Bancroft

A Peace Pole was unveiled in Bancroft.
We caught up with Chris Houston, President of the Canadian Peace Museum, who had a table set up at the Maynooth Morning Market on Saturday, which also happened to be International Day of Peace.

“We need more symbols of peace. We need to normalize peace just now. If you grab a national newspaper, you’ll see war on the front page. Newspapers report on what is unusual. And peace is normal.”

Houston said the Peace Museum was grateful to the Town of Bancroft for supporting the newly installed Peace Pole in Bancroft’s Cenotaph Park.

He went on to explain a bit more about the pole.

“[It’s] s a pole in the ground that has a pro-peace message in eight different languages. And we hope it provokes conversations about peace, which is what we’re trying to do.”
