“We need more symbols of peace. We need to normalize peace just now. If you grab a national newspaper, you’ll see war on the front page. Newspapers report on what is unusual. And peace is normal.”
Houston said the Peace Museum was grateful to the Town of Bancroft for supporting the newly installed Peace Pole in Bancroft’s Cenotaph Park.
He went on to explain a bit more about the pole.
“[It’s] s a pole in the ground that has a pro-peace message in eight different languages. And we hope it provokes conversations about peace, which is what we’re trying to do.”
Languages on the pole include English, French, Algonquin, Arabic, Ukrainian and German.
It is also in Braille.
Houston went on to discuss the Stories of Peace Awards happening tomorrow evening starting at 4 p.m. at the Village Playhouse, you can find out more at the Canadian Peace Museum.
