The town of Bancroft says they are inviting people to join in tackling food waste by piloting a new technology in their home.
FoodCycler is an indoor compost alternative that speeds up the natural decomposition process through aerobic digestion of waste. The Town of Bancroft has partnered with FoodCycler and Impact Canada Investments to offer the technology to residents at a subsidized rate.
According to the town, FoodCycler transforms leftovers and food scraps into a nutrient-rich soil amendment.
The unit dries and grinds food waste into a dry, odorless nutrient-rich by-product that is significantly reduced in weight and volume from its unprocessed state.
While many in the area simply compost outside, the program could be a good fit for those living in apartments, or anyone with mobility challenges for or for whom outdoor composting was more challenging.
The cost of a 2.5 l capacity Food Cycler without a subsidy would be $500. With the subsidy it is $150.
There are 30 spots available on a first come, first serve basis. Interested participants can register by going to the Town of Bancroft website.
