Local students to hold clothing swap to promote positive change

York River Public School students will be holding an event to help those in need and promote positive change in Bancroft.

The school’s WE team and EcoClub are partnering up to host a clothing swap on Wednesday. Grade eight student Riley Nicholson says this is a great opportunity for families and those in need to get clothes for free.

Grade eight student Sarah Johnson says, on top of helping people, the clothing drive will also promote the importance of reusing.

Both students say the event is open to anyone, and will have clothes for all age groups and genders. It happens from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Wednesday at the York River Public School gym. Donations will still be accepted throughout the school day leading up to and during the event.

Principal Marion Wilson says she is very proud of the students who have taken the lead and organized the event themselves. Wilson says this is part of YRPS’ goal of developing youth who will contribute as global citizens by demonstrating empathy, caring, and compassion. Teacher Leigh-Anna Plumpton also calls this a great leadership opportunity.
