Residents encouraged to practice fire safety during labour day long weekend

Heading into the last long weekend of the summer, the North Hastings Fire Service wants to make sure you keep safety top of mind.

Fire Chief Pat Hoover says it’s important to remember that daytime burning restrictions are still in effect in the area, meaning no campfires are allowed between 7:00am and 7:00pm.

He says it’s important to follow these burning restrictions, as is hoping not to have any bush or grass fires because of the misuse of campfires.

Hoover says it’s also important to leave a safe distance between your barbecue and your home, cottage, or any nearby buildings.

Hoover also reminds everyone that flying lanterns are banned in Hastings Highlands. He is also encouraging everyone not to use flying lanterns because they can start fires and damage property.
