14-million-dollar affordable housing unit breaks ground in Hastings County

Local officials gathered last Friday on the site of a to-be-built 32-unit housing services building in Trenton.

According to Hastings County, the building (developed and owned by the county) will provide safe and affordable high-quality housing for individuals and families in need.

The 3-storey building will feature 1, 2, and 3-bedroom units and be a mixture of family and senior units, with greenspace, laundry, a gazebo, and parking.

The building will exceed the Ontario Building Code standards for energy efficiency by 20%.

“There is a great need for affordable housing across Hastings County and this project is a step forward in our commitment to supporting our vulnerable residents”, stated Warden Mullin. “This building will help support families and seniors who are on the waitlist for affordable housing in Quinte West.”

Hastings County, in partnership with the cities of Quinte West and Belleville, are funding the $14 million project but will continue to explore potential funding sources to help offset the capital costs.

The project is part of the county’s broader commitment to expanding access to affordable housing across the region.

It is expected to be completed in late 2026.
