FedEx has confirmed it was one of their delivery trucks that was hijacked on Little Ireland Road yesterday in Palmer Rapids.
MooseFM reached out to FedEx last night after hearing reports that it was one of their vehicles.
FedEx communications advisor James Anderson made the following statement to MooseFM:
“We are thankful our team member suffered no physical injuries and our focus remains on his wellbeing. There is no higher priority than the safety of our team members, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.”
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP are investigating after a delivery van was hijacked near Palmer Rapids yesterday, and later abandoned near Whitney.
Around 6 p.m. Monday, police were called to an empty lot on Hay Creek Road in South Algonquin Township after a delivery driver reported being held against their will that afternoon.
The victim allegedly encountered a female and male armed with a handgun on Little Ireland Road in Brudenell-Lyndoch-Raglan Township early that afternoon.
The two individuals reportedly accompanied the driver in the van, which then travelled on area roads to Highway 127 before stopping on Hay Creek Road.
Once at that location the driver told police that the two individuals exited the white full-size delivery van and left on foot.
OPP officer Const. Shawn Peever said they’re seeking anyone in the area who may have residential or commercial surveillance. He said after the incident occurred on Little Ireland Road, the vehicle traveled on Mayhew Road, New Carlow Road, Little Papaneau Lake Road and then Hwy. 127 before stopping at an empty lot on Hay Creek Road.”
“So if anybody lives in those areas (or) were traveling in those areas and may have seen something out of place, or seen this white delivery van, or have business or residential security footage, then certainly we’ve asked them to contact police if there’s anything on that video that would be helpful.”
Peever adds this kind of hijacking is uncommon.
“Fortunately, it’s not a common occurrence and we’re certainly treating it appropriately. We engaged our emergency response team last evening along with the canine unit, the forensic identification unit is involved as well. And the Upper Ottawa Valley crime unit are all investigating to get to the bottom of it.”
Peever adds that there were no injuries sustained and OPP believe there is no threat to the public.
