A year from now there will be no more Eganville Leader Newspaper.
But until then it is “business as usual”.
The news was announced in a front-page story of today’s edition (Feb. 26) of the Leader.
“Deciding to close the Leader is the most difficult decision I have had to make in my 52 years in the business, but the time has come,” said publisher Gerald Tracy, indicating health matters were partially at play in the decision.
“[We are} like a family…but we are aging and along with aging comes health problems and family illnesses and other personal matters that require attention”
Tracey said readers, subscribers and advertisers should know that everything will run as usual until this time next year.
The final edition will be published on Feb. 28, 2026.
The Leader is Renfrew County’s largest paid circulation newspaper.
It was founded in 1902 by Patrick McHugh and purchased in 1944 by the Tracey Family.
