Coe Hill School wins Stories of Peace Award

Coe Hill Public School has been chosen as this year’s winner of the Stories of Peace Award, an annual competition that concludes on Sept. 21, International Day of Peace.

Entrants submitted videos and art to answer the question: “What Does Peace Mean to You?”

Coe Hill’s winning video includes themes of empathy, kindness and inclusion and the importance and complexity of improving peace both locally and internationally.

The video featured testimonies of children and adults.

The video also includes the list of the 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, pointing out how an overwhelming majority have not been completed.

At the award ceremony on Sept 24., the school was presented with a congratulatory scroll from the Government of Canada, signed by Shelby Kramp-Neuman, MP.

Another scroll from the Government of Ontario congratulated the school and was signed by MPP Ric Bresee. The event was sponsored by Loaded Pierogi restaurants.

Winners receive $500 and a maple trophy, carved and donated by Matt Peshal.

Entries were mostly submitted from Ontario, but videos also came in from as far away as Bangladesh.
