Local police officers take kids fishing in upcoming ‘Kids and Cops Derby’

Police officers from Bancroft OPP say they’re looking forward to helping kids ‘cast a line’ at the Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Day on Saturday, August 17th.

The Bancroft OPP are inviting kids under 12 and their parents and caregivers, for a fun morning of fishing with police officers. The derby will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Paudash Marina, located at 1320 McGillivray Rd in Highlands East.

Fishing equipment and prizes donated by local businesses will be available to win at the event, and participants are encouraged to bring their fishing rods and tackle.

Children and parents with access to boats can fish the event but will need to register at the marina for 10 a.m.

This event is supported by the Canadian National Sportfishing Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting recreational fishing for all Canadians.

According to Kids and Cops: “Kids love fishing and police personnel know the benefits of kids enjoying healthy outdoor activities. This inspired the Police Association of Ontario to team up with Bob Izumi, Canadian Tire Corporation and Fishing Forever to create a grassroots program that encourages youngsters to go fishing.”

Other sponsors for the event include Mack Attack Outdoors, MAD Outdoors, AL’s Bait and Tackle and OPP Youth Foundation,
