LCBO strike over after workers vote to ratify new contract

Written by Casey Kenny

Update: 4:12 P.M. Sunday

The strike by LCBO workers in Ontario is over and stores will reopen on Tuesday.

The union representing the LCBO employees released a statement Sunday afternoon announcing that its members have voted to ratify the new contract.

It follows a strike that began on July 5 with stores closed for just over two weeks.

Union officials say the now-ratified deal includes significant improvements from the employer’s last offer on July 4, the day before the strike started. In the new contract, there is a guarantee of no store closures and a cap on the number of agency stores. Most importantly, there is a shared commitment to a future in which the LCBO, and its revenues, continue to grow with Ontario.
