Giant hole in Mink Lake Road due to washout leaves some residents stranded

A portion of Mink Lake Road has been washed out, believed to be caused by a broken beaver dam.

Resident Warren Ellis says that he and his wife Jackie came across the washout this morning. They described the hole in the road as about 15 feet deep and 25 feet wide.

“We were heading out for an appointment and saw a number of vehicles flashing their lights, so I figured there was an issue and lo and behold, we come over the hill and there’s this great big hole in the road”

Warren Ellis says he believes the washout to be caused by a broken beaver dam, something that has happened on that portion of road before.

Road crews are on site working to fix the damage. Hastings Highlands says that the washout is near civic address 1397. They refer to it as a  ‘sizeable washout’ and say it is expected to take all day and in to the evening to repair.
