Dr. Sehdev joins the ER team in ‘beautiful’ Bancroft

Hastings County and Quinte Health recently announced Dr. Dashminder Singh Sehdev has joined the health care team at North Hastings Hospital.

Dr. Sehdev started June 1 as a full-time emergency department physician.

This comes at a time when long wait lists for doctors are being experienced across the region.

Dr Sehdev brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new position, sharing with my Bancroft Now that he is a trauma and emergency specialist who has been working at McMaster University in Hamilton for the past 15 years.

“I’ve always wanted to practice in a rural environment and am fortunate to have this opportunity in a place as beautiful and welcoming as Bancroft,” Singh said in a recent news release.

“My new colleagues, whom I’ve come to know over the last year, are capable, compassionate, and dedicated healthcare professionals. They have inspired me to use my learnings as an academic trauma specialist to make a tangible difference in this community, both within and beyond the emergency department.”

Dr. Colin MacPherson, Chief of Staff for Quinte Health, says having Dr Sehdev onboard in Bancroft is a monumental achievement amidst a “formidable recruitment landscape.”

Warden Bob Mullin also pointed out that it is increasingly challenging to recruit physicians to rural healthcare and said the county hopes to create long-term stability for the Bancroft ER department, which provides care to more than 14,000 patients a year.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Sehdev is joining this program and hope that it is one more step in improving access to critical medical care for our residents in North Hastings,” said Mullin.
