Bancroft & Area Kids in Needs helping 160 kids stay warm

Dozens of kids in our community will stay warm this winter, but a community effort is needed to keep it that way, year over year.

Bancroft & Area Kids in Need expects to hand out 160 snowsuits to 83 families at Bancroft Bible Chapel, from 9 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, Oct. 28. Those families have already registered for support.

Kids in Need Treasurer Sherry Torrens says about $20,000 is needed each year to purchase snowsuits. The need to fundraise is ongoing.

She says the number of snowsuits and registered families this year is similar to other recent years.

“We did go a bit higher last year,” she says. “We’re a bit short of funds. With (the pandemic years) our funds gradually depleted, so we are still looking for some funds to make that up and to get in good shape for next year.”

People can donate to Kids In Need through its Canada Helps webpage or by e-transfer to [email protected]

Torrens says, after the snowsuit handout day, Kids In Need will shift its focus to generating donations for its Christmas Toy Drive.
