New crosswalk to make downtown more pedestrian friendly

Downtown Bancroft is a little more friendly for walkers now.

A new crosswalk has been installed, as the town puts the finishing touches on the Main Street Makeover Project.

The crosswalk is designed to get people safely across Hastings Street, in between, roughly, the Price Ford location on the west and the Royal LePage building on the east.

With the new addition, Bancroft OPP is remining people of the rules around crosswalks. Drivers and cyclists must yield to pedestrians and allow them to fully cross. Failure to yield could lead to a $1,000 fine and a loss of demerit points.

The roughly $4-million Main Street Makeover has led to new infrastructure on the downtown strip over the past year and is part of an overall revitalization plan. It’s mostly complete, except for some landscape work scheduled for spring.
