North Hastings Public Library delaying re-opening

The North Hastings Public Library is on the list of places that are able to re-open on Friday, June 12th, but the library’s CEO Kim McMunn says they will not be.

“The library space is under renovation to ensure safe spaces within our building,” McMunn says in a statement to the MyBancroftNow.com newsroom.

“Once opened, there will be a new service delivery model,” she adds. “For the time being, patrons will not be allowed to browse the shelves, as they did in the past.  As a precaution, the government has issued orders stating that patrons will not touch shelves or books.  You will place your orders at the desk with staff, and they will get the materials for you.  Special lists are being compiled to assist with selection.”

There will also be a new set of rules for those wanting to use the computers at the library. “Computer usage will be reduced, with time scheduled in between for cleaning,” McMunn says. “Unfortunately, we had to reduce the number of computers available, due to social distancing requirements.  The library will be closed to the public, for the first and last half hour, of opening hours, for cleaning and maintenance.”

A date was not announced for when the library will be able to open. McMunn says when they do open their doors, it will be by appointment only. Only a “certain number” of people will be allowed in at one time. “For those that do enter, masks will be mandatory and sanitizer will be available,” she adds. “Please follow our Facebook page for pictures of our progress.”
