The town of Bancroft says sewer flushing is beginning Monday and will be done from Snow Road, going south towards Bridge Street.
“The flushing program is necessary to remove grit, sand, gravel and greases from the sewer mains,” the Town says. “This is a maintenance operation that aids in the prevention of sewer blockages, odour generation and premature wear of the piping and mechanical components.”
The Town lists Battelle Road, Billa Street, Bridge Street East and part of Bridge Street West from the main intersection to Mill Street, Dale Street, Cleak Avenue, Faraday Street, Flint Avenue, Gaebel Road, Hastings Street South and North from Highway 28 to Snow Road, Johnson Crescent, Madawaska Street, Mill Street, Newkirk Boulevard, Phoebe Street, Station Street, Williams Drive, and Woodview Lane as the affected areas during the maintenance.
“The work will not affect the majority of homeowners and businesses or cause disruption to service,” the Town says. “However there is a possibility that small spills, noise and odours may result in some homes.” They say this is because the sewer cleaning process uses a high-pressure water jet to clean the pipes. “When the water jet passes through the sewer main, the water pressure draws air through the pipes. This air movement has the ability to push out, or pull in the water and air held inside your plumbing and U-shaped traps; this includes your toilets, showers, sinks, and floor drains.”
Veolia Environmental Services will be doing the work, which is expected to be done by Wednesday, or Thursday at the latest.
