New fire ban system may be coming to Madawaska Valley

Madawaska Valley could be getting a new fire ban system.

That’s according to Fire Chief Corwin Quade, who says the township is looking at a level one and level two system.

Quade says this means that under a level one ban, campfires could still be lit, but permits won’t be issued. He says this makes it easier for tourists coming to the area.

The levels system isn’t a new one either. Quade says neighbouring townships have implemented it and it works quite well for them.

Quade says this wouldn’t result in any extra work for him as the fire chief either, as it may actually result in less burning calls during a ban.
