Hastings Highlands firework by-law not moved by council

Regulations on fireworks use won’t be coming to Hastings Highlands anytime soon.

The idea first came to council in October when it was suggested staff create a report outlining how to govern fireworks use. The reasoning at the time was because of the noise of fireworks, pollution to the environment, and how often they’re set off.

A draft by-law was presented to council in March, with an updated version coming to the table in April. However, some councillors were still concerned about the restrictions so the motion was pushed back to last week’s council meeting.

At council, the by-law wasn’t moved by any member of council, and as a result the motion was lost.
