NHCS gets share of county funding to become EarlyOn Centre

North Hastings Children’s Services is getting some extra money so that it can become an EarlyOn Child and Family Centre.

NHCS will receive over $242,000 this year from Hastings County, and $317,000 in 2019, so it can start providing EarlyOn programs in July. In total, Hastings County is receiving $1.4-million from the province for EarlyOn programs in the region.

NHCS Executive Director Jessica Anderson says she’s excited about it because it will allow NHCS to support more families in the area. Anderson says some of the funds will be put towards improving the quality of services already offered by NHCS.

Anderson also says some of the money will be used to upgrade technology at the child care centre’s current location.

NHCS is currently an Ontario Early Years Centre and a Family Resource Centre, but these two services will soon fall under the EarlyOn umbrella. Anderson says she hopes the recently announced funds will help bring awareness to the programs the centre offers. Although it isn’t as much as NHCS had asked for, she says the centre will work with the county to advocate for more provincial dollars to introduce more services in the future.
