Bancroft OPP says a 74-year-old woman was killed because of a fire in the R J Brooks Retirement Centre.
Margaret Kellestine died in the fire, which started early on the morning of March 15th. Â Police say it was accidental, and caused by careless smoking.
North Hastings Fire Chief Pat Hoover says crews managed to contain the fire to one second storey unit and evacuate the building. While most residents have been able to move back in, those living in units 208 to 211 will still have to wait until April 3rd.
Hoover says he also wants to remind everyone to take all the right steps to prevent fires in their homes.
Hoover says you may have less than a minute to get out of your home if a fire breaks out.
